The combination of a fuel-efficient diesel engine, built-in FuelWise™ two-speed functionality and the new ultra-high-efficiency generator, results in a reliable, uninterrupted electrical source for refrigerated containers when transported over land via truck or rail. The generator features a single-winding, contactless architecture for reduced complexity and enhanced reliability.

Carrier Transicold’s exclusive FuelWise feature allows the system to run at two speeds: 1800 rpm, corresponding to 60 Hz, and 1500 rpm, corresponding to 50 Hz. The system is optimized to operate at low speed, allowing the engine to run slower for significant fuel savings. It will automatically switch to high speed based on conditions corresponding to refrigeration system load.

The FuelWise feature helps PowerLINE Series 5 generator sets achieve fuel savings of up to 34% when hauling perishables and frozen commodities at typical refrigerated setpoints, which is 6% better than legacy PowerLINE generator sets with FuelWise (28%), thanks to the new ultra-high-efficiency generator.

Carrier’s newest PowerLINE generator sets deliver improved performance while achieving compliance with the 2019 Tier 4 emissions standard from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

This upgraded line of PowerLINE generator sets incorporate ecoFORWARD™ technologies, resulting in a platform that is Carrier’s most fuel-efficient models to date, thanks to standard inclusion of the formerly optional FuelWise™ technology and use of a new ultra-high-efficiency 15 kW custom-designed permanent magnet generator. Fuel savings of up to 34% versus prior standard units provide customer with significant operational cost savings and longer hauls prior to refueling.

The enhanced PowerLINE units provide uninterrupted power to operate ISO container refrigeration systems when used over land in intermodal applications. At the heart of the new platform is the ultra-high efficiency permanent magnet generator that allows the power drawn from the engine to be reduced by 20%. Common to this new Tier 4 PowerLINE platform is the familiar 2.2-liter diesel engine now rated at 18.5 kW.

This engine is based on Carrier’s current engine line, with its well-accepted speed sensor and electronic governor. Providing customers with a familiar, reliable engine means that their personnel do not have to learn operate and deal with complex new engine technology in the field while reaping the operational benefits of our high efficiency compliance platform.

The PowerLINE Tier 4 platform is compliant with U.S. EPA Tier4 69RG15-130W-05. It is also compliant with California Air Resources Board (CARB) standards upon purchase and for seven years thereafter without further modification. After seven years, CARB requires further emissions reductions for the engine class (8-19 kW) for units operating in California.

In response, Carrier developed an optional engine emissions system (EES)* for the Tier 4 PowerLINE models, designed to achieve compliance with CARB’s ultra-low diesel emissions standard known as ULETRU. Tier 4 PowerLINE units will need to be fitted with the EES option by the end of the seventh year, if they are to remain in use in California. The option would be available as either a factory or field install option.

RUGGED CONSTRUCTION, DEPENDABLE POWER, SIMPLE OPERATION.

The PowerLINE^® generator set contains a 23.9 KW V2203-DI* engine and a 15 kW wound generator. The engine includes an electronic governor system that provides near-constant engine speed, which results in more stable voltage output. The powerful, reliable; low- maintenance field wound generator produces 460 volts of continuous power and features an internally excited, self-regulated design. All electrical components are enclosed within the generator package and provide superior resistance to moisture and salt.

The model 69RG15 mounts to properly equipped ISO containers, in front of the refrigeration unit’s upper face. Generator sets are typically provided with “pin” mounting to attach to the container’s header rail. Clamp mounting to the corner casting of the container is available as an option. In either case, when mounted, the 69RG15 envelope allows access to the refrigeration unit control box.

This applies to all Carrier and most competitive units as well. Additionally the design of the equipment considered a deep footprint to avoid tipping due to rough handling by yard forklifts, and fork pockets are extended and reinforced to eliminate fork tine damage.

The FuelWise™ option is available and can reduce fuel consumption up to 28%. This directly translates to a reduction of the unit’s carbon footprint by up to 28%.
